Eid Prayers

The Bath Islamic Society organises both eid prayers inside the mosque, or space not permitting, at the Percy Community Centre.

Eid prayers have two rakaahs (sets of prayers), with seven takbeers (i.e. allahuakbar) read on the first rakaah and five takbeers on the second one. In between the rakaahs, it is advised to read "Subhanallah, walhamdulillah, walailahaillallah, wallahuakbar". The rest other prayer proceedings are exactly the same as those of daily prayers. While the prayer is important, it is not valid to do it without listening to the sermon that is given afterwards.

After the procession is completed, we distribute free sweets, crisps and snacks for children and those who would like to linger around shaking hand, hugging each others, and chatting while forgiving each others on the blessed special days.

On the night before the eid (after Isha prayer) until the minute before the eid prayer starts, it is advised to read takbeer. For Eid ul-Adha, it is also recommended to read the takbeer on the three tashreek days (11, 12 and 13 of Zulhijjah) when the qurban (animal sacrifice) procession take place. We can also help liaise with a Muslim authorised butcher should anyone want to offer qurban.
 
The takbeer read can be varied among the Islamic school of thoughts, so in order to accommodate all aspirations we use the following version:

اللّهُ أكبر اللّهُ أكبر  اللّهُ أكبر
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar
Allah is Great, Allah is Great, Allah is Great

لا إلَهَ الا اللّه
La illaha il Allah
there is no God, but Allah

اللّهُ أكبر اللّهُ اكبر
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar
Allah is Great, Allah is Great

و لِلّه الحمدَ
walilahil Hamd
to Him belongs all Praise

اللّهُ أكبرُ كَبيِرَا وَالحَمدُ لِلّهِ كَثِيرا
Allahu Akbaru Kabeera, wal-Hamdulilahi katheera
Allah is the Greatest, And all Praise is due to Him

وَ سُبحَان اللّهِ بُكرَةً وَأصْيِلا
wa Subhan allahi bukratan wa aseila
And Glory to Allah eventide and in the morning

لا إلَهَ الا اللّه
La illaha il Allah
there is no God, but Allah the Unique

صَدَقَ وَعدَه وَنَصَرَ عبده
sadaqa wa'dah wa nasara abda
He has fulfilled His Promise, and made Victorious His servant

وأعزَ جُنَده وَهزم الأحْزَابَ وحْدَه  
wa a'azza jundahu wa hazamal-ahzaaba wahdah
and made Mighty His soldiers and defeated the confederates

لا إلَهَ الا اللّه وَلا نَعبُد الا أياه  
La illaha il Allah wa laa na'budu illa iyyah
there is no God, But Allah, He alone we worship

مُخلِصِّينَ لَهُ الدّيِنَ وَلوْ كَرِهَ الكَافِروُن
mukhlessena lahud-deena walaw karehal-Kafeeroon
with sincere and exclusive devotion, even though the idolaters hate it  

اللّهمَ صَلِّ على سيْدنَا مُحَمد
Allahumma salli ala sayyedena Muhammad
O Allah, have Mercy on our Prophet Muhammad

وَعَلى آلِ سيْدنَا مُحَمد
wa ala aalie sayyedena Muhammad
and on the family of our Prophet Muhammad

وَعَلى اصْحَابِ سيْدنَا مُحَمد
wa ala as-haabie sayyedena Muhammad
and on the companions of our Prophet Muhammad

وَعَلى أنصَارِ سيْدنَا مُحَمد
wa ala ansari sayyedena Muhammad
and on the helpers of our Prophet Muhammad

وَعَلى أزوَاجِ سيْدنَا مُحَمد
wa ala azwajie sayyedena Muhammad
and on the wives of our Prophet Muhammad

وَعَلى ذُرِّيَةِ سيْدنَا مُحَمد
wa ala dhurreyatie sayyedena Muhammad
and on the progeny of our Prophet Muhammad

وَ سَلّم تَسْلِيماَ كَثّيرا
wa sallim tasleeman katheera
and Bestow upon them much peace.
