Ramadan Activities
During Ramadan, the mosque is
virtually opens 24 hours a day. All Ramadan activities are taking place
in the mosque:
Sahur Breakfast
Even though fasting breakfast is not served everyday, at least once in Ramadan, all members are invited to join the Bangla society having their breakfast while listening to a talk in Bengali language.
Fajr prayer
Every morning, a congregational fajr prayer is performed in the mosque, during Ramadan.
Morning tilawah
Some who prefer to stay in the mosque, instead of returning to their comfortable beds, would usually spend their time reading the Qur'an and its translations
Dhuha prayer
Once, the morning sunshine is high, most of them who stay after fajr prayer would normally perform dhuha prayer, before leaving the mosque to start their day.
Dhuhr prayer
After working or studying for several hours continuesly, most people would like to have a break. During such lunch break, many of them would come and join the Dhuhr congregational prayer at the mosque.
Ashr prayer
After finishing studies or work (for some lucky brothers), most of them would like to come to the mosque to join the Ashr congregational prayer, before heading home.
Afternoon discussion
Some of them who do not want to go home (mostly students) would stay and spend their time discussing important matters lead by the Imam or any more knowledgeable and experienced members of the society.
Breaking fast
The discussion would automatically stop as soon as the maghrib time has arrived. They would all listen to the athan and breaking their Ramadan fast by drinking a cup of milk or fizzy drink or water, plus one or two pieces of dates or cakes or, if lucky, yummi samosa.
Maghrib prayer
This congregational prayer is commonly the most attended prayer of a day of Ramadan. This is not because of the iftar offered right after the prayer, but because during that time they can see most of their brothers around to exchange updates.
Iftar
This iftar is usually sponsored by one member of the society, especially on weekends. Nonetheless, when no one has signed up for sponsorship, the mosque would fund the meal and the drinks for iftar. Weekend iftar is for family, where special treats like sweet and ice cream might be on the menu and special program, like quizzes and competitions might be on.
Isha prayer
This congregational prayer is the second fullest of a Ramadan day because it will be directly followed by the taraweeh prayer.
Taraweeh prayer
The congregational prayer is done in eight rakaah, but the Quranic verses read would cover approximately chapter each. Due to the length of the prayer, the eight rakaah is split into four sets of two rakaah. After the prayer, occasionally there are some snacks and drinks that can be enjoyed during an informal talk delivered by the Imam. Afterward, a three rakaah witr prayer is performed in two sets where in the second one, the Qunut and other dua would normally be read after the I'tidal.
