NEW CLAIT IT COURSES AT BATH

 ISLAMIC SOCIETY

If you are taking your very first steps in IT then New CLAIT (Computer Literacy And Information Technology) could be for you. It will help you build your confidence and give you recognition of your skills in using computers and basic IT software packages.

In collaboration with the City of Bath College (www.citybathcoll.ac.uk), Bath Islamic Society currently runs free of charge New CLAIT courses for its members. The classes for brothers are on Thursdays from 10.00 to 13.00, while classes for sisters are on Tuesdays from 9.45 to 12.45.

New CLAIT is part of the Oxford and Cambridge RSA (OCR) suite of IT qualifications, the UK's most popular suite of IT user qualifications. The complete suite consists of three IT user qualifications, New CLAIT, CLAIT Plus, and CLAIT Advanced, which allow progression from basic to advanced levels.

There are over 4, 500 New CLAIT centres in the UK and 3.5 million successful candidates.

The OCR is one of the UK's leading awarding bodies providing qualifications to students at school, college, in work or through part-time learning programmes.

New CLAIT has been designed to assess skills at Level 1/Introductory Level of the National Qualifications Framework. It is suitable for IT beginners as a complete introduction to the use of IT for those learners who have limited experience with computers. It is also a very flexible approach, allowing for individual needs with 'pick and mix' packages. The qualification offers flexiblity with a broad range of courses to choose from, with the aim of preparing the student in real-life, work-based IT skills.

To attain the New CLAIT certificate candidates must successfully achieve the Core Unit plus four optional units.

Testing

New CLAIT can be assessed in a variety of ways. Below are the forms of assessment available throughout the units:

Core Unit 1 consists of an OCR set assignment which is externally marked by an OCR appointed Examiner-moderator. There is no opportunity for centre assessing for this unit.

Units 2 - 10 consist of OCR set assignments which are centre assessed by the tutor/centre assessor before being externally moderated by an OCR appointed Examiner-moderator.

Unit 11 is tested by an online electronic test produced and administered by the BBC. There is no centre assessment involved.

Units 12 - 13 are tested by an online electronic test produced by Certiport. There is no centre assessment involved.

Note:
For Units 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7
OCR has a Computer Based Assessment (CBA) engine, capable of marking electronic versions of candidate work. This is as an alternative to the above methodologies and removes the need for centre assessment with respect to Units 2, 4, 5 and 7.
